Financing Schemes
The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced that the government is enhancing its business
financing schemes to support an additional S$2.3 billion in loans to help local firms gain access to
credit in this current economic slowdown. The enhancements include increasing loan quantums,
raising government risk sharing of loan defaults and extending business financing schemes to all
local enterprises. With the enhancements, up to 124,000 local companies will be eligible to benefit
from these schemes. The enhancements will take effect from 1 December 2008.

PREPARE™ Programme
An Initiative by ASME and EDC@ASME and supported by WDA and NTUC

As part of its effort to help older workers remain economically productive, the Government will enact re-
employment legislation by 2012 to enable more people to continue working beyond the current
statutory retirement age of 62, up to 65 in the first instance and, later, up to 67.

Designed to prepare companies for the impending re-employment legislation, "PREPARE

(Programme for Re-Employment Practices: A Roadmap for Employers)" provides guidance to
companies in implementing re-employment as an integral part of their HR system to facilitate re-
employment of older workers.
